Dogon
The Dogon sculptures are an ongoing series made from pods that I have been collecting for years in my neighborhood. I was drawn to them by their sculptural aspect.
The decorative motifs are inspired by those of the Dogon ethnic group from Mali in West Africa.
First Step
By working with natural elements, I try to find the right balance between a certain creative intervention and respect for the raw state of the object.
I will hug you later
At the beginning of our confinement in France; once the panic had dropped a little, I thought that although having no access to my studio and very few tools, I was in the ideal situation to produce art… I was “free to create”!
In fact things don't work that way (at least not for me!).
I tried to analyze the reasons why I did not embark on frantic and extraordinary production during these times.
The fact is that I don't really believe in “inspiration”; or some sort of “enlightenment” that comes to you as if by magic...
On the contrary, I need the “movement of the world” and the gaze of others to be able to move further with my work.
So I started producing this series of “visual Haikus” called "I will hug you later”, some of which will certainly become larger pieces.
The title is a reference to the impossibility of getting closer to each other in this period of pandemic.
